The St. Paul UMC is posting a position of Music Director,

one person that will be responsible for all of the church

music programs, primarily consisting of a

Traditional 11:00am Servicea 9:00am Contemporary Service,  

a Children’s/Youth Choir, and a HandbellChoir.  We understand

that candidates may not have the time nor the experience to

fulfil the complete position, therefore we encourage interested

persons to apply for all, or any of the portions for which you

may have an interest. Compensation will be commensurate with

the duties performed.

The 11:00am Traditional Sunday service includes a 25-member

Chancel Choir which enjoys quality music that they read quite

well.  We have a pianist/organist, and frequently incorporate

vocal or instrumental soloists into the service. 

Youth/Children’s Choirs also occasionally perform at this service. 

The incumbent will be responsible for

directing the Chancel Choir on Sundays and during a weekly evening

rehearsal, coordinate music with the pianist/organist, and provide

music for special services such as Easter, Christmas, etc.

The 9:00am Contemporary Sunday Service utilizes the services of

available vocalists and instrumentalists. Usually guitar, piano,

and keyboard or drums when available.  The music is contemporary

Christian music, lyrics are projected for parishioners when they

are to sing-along.  Incumbent will plan, select music, and

participate in the 9:00am Sunday Contemporary Service, and

conduct weekly rehearsals.

The Children’s/Youth Choir is currently small in numbers.

Children’s Choir rehearses on Sunday mornings, between the two

services, or at another time to meet the needs of parents.  This

choir is occasionally incorporated into the church services as

appropriate.  Incumbent serves as a resource for Vacation Bible

School and is expected to encourage increased participation in

the choirs.

The Handbell Choir periodically performs at the 11:00am Traditional

Sunday Service.  In the past they have had occasional special

performances.  The church owns 5½ Octave Mutable Chimes and

3½ Octave Choir Chimes.  Incumbent will plan the music, rehearse,

and conduct the Hand Bell Choir at weekly evening rehearsals. 

Also coordinate with Chancel Choir Director to participate in

church services as appropriate.  Incumbent is expected to

encourage increased participation in the Hand Bell Choir and

establish a training Hand Bell Choir to participate in Hand Bell



Note:  After initial review of resumes, candidates may be offered

an opportunity to direct and work with the choir as part of the

selection process.
